Some Rolls-Royce Phantom’s infotainment systems malfunctioned and led to the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) pointed out that in some cases, these vehicles may not be able to display the rear view camera lens.

The NHTSA recall report stated that the Central Information Display (CID) mechanism may not work properly when the vehicle is unlocked and/or the driver's door is opened.

If the screen does not reach the correct position, the lens of the rear-view camera may be invisible to the driver, rendering it useless. The cause of the malfunction lies in the operating software, which may overemphasize the infotainment screen display due to excessive unnecessary opening requests from the compartment door modules.

Fortunately, these cars are also equipped with a parking distance control system, which should help drivers understand their distance to objects behind them through audio prompts. However, when the solution is ready, car owners will be notified and will be required to take their car to an authorized Rolls-Royce dealership in order to solve the problem for free.

Rolls-Royce said the solution is a software update that will not overload the display. Neither the company nor NHTSA was aware of any injuries related to this issue.
